Learn the basics of weaving and go home with a texture and color-filled wall hanging.

In this workshop, we will:

  • learn how to start and finish your weaving so it is secure and ready for display

  • weave plain weave, twining, soumak, loops and fringe

  • troubleshoot tension issues and understand the basics of weave structure

  • understand the basics of woven shapes

The following supplies are included:

  • a frame loom, warped and ready

  • a rainbow of yarn

  • two sizes of weaving needle

  • a dowel for hanging your weaving

You can bring:

  • your own yarn (optional)

You will go home with:

  • a woven wall hanging in your favorite colors. Some participants may have some final trimming and tucking left to do on their piece.

Emily Hitz

Emily Hitz has been weaving since 2014. She studied tapestry with Tricia Goldberg in Berkeley, and has since continued her learning through practice, books, and the internet. Her work features minimal geometric motifs, with the occasional injection of texture. She grew up in Pacifica and San Francisco, and now lives in Saskatoon, Canada with her husband and pets, where she teaches weaving and facilitates other creative workshops.
