Enter into the magical world of natural and botanical dyeing with local maker, Kaitlin Bonifacio, in this dyeing with avocado workshop. Learn the basics of extracting pigment from fresh and dried avocado stones and skins, and brew a vat of blush pink dye as a group. Three Habotai silk square scarves (21.5 inches) will be yours to experiment with, manipulating the pattern and intensity of color through methods of fabric preparation, folding, and after dye treatment.

In this workshop, we will:

  • brew a vat of avocado dye, learning the necessary steps to replicate at home
  • learn basic folding and preparation methods to manipulate the pattern and color of final product
  • dye three silk square scarves (21.5 inches)
  • rinse and fix the color with heat
The following supplies are included:
  • dye materials and equipment (burners, pots, dye stuffs, mesh bags, plastic labels)
  • silk scarves
  • avocado snack
  • post dye softening treatment
You will go home with:
  • three naturally dyed silk square scarves
