Creatively decorate cake and cupcakes with natural, organic ingredients. Make life’s celebrations more beautiful, meaningful and delicious. Cakes made and decorated with love are beautiful gifts!

In this workshop, we will:

  • get an intro to cake design through a nature-based lens using local, seasonal products

  • watch a demo on how to decorate a beautiful cake and fabulous cupcakes

  • decorate your own cupcakes and learn your own style of cake design

  • learn basic techniques for using botanically infused ganaches, buttercream, and other natural and decadent decorations

The following supplies are included:

  • a beginners cake decorating kit, with buttercream decorating tips and pastry bags

  • a booklet of recipes for you to recreate magic at home

  • so many cupcakes and an abundance of decorations to create and play with

You can bring:

  • your open-hearted self ready to enjoy creative expression through cake decorating

You will go home with:

  • a better idea of your cake design style

  • the confidence and inspiration to bake and decorate for any occasion

  • lots of cupcakes to share with friends and family


I use organic and fair-trade ingredients whenever possible, and I use only organic flowers and botanical materials. Gluten free cupcakes will also be provided.

Ella Fleming

Ella Fleming is a Vegetable Garden Manager for Orchard Keepers, an edible landscaping company focused on ecological practices. Previously she was an instructor at the UCSC Farm and Garden program in the Alan Chadwick Garden, teaching organic farming and gardening skills to apprentices and undergraduate interns. She combines her passion for growing vegetables, fruit and flowers with her lifelong passion for baking. A love since childhood, Ella began baking when she was young and recently launched a small business, Flour.ish Baking Company, to share her joy for baking and organic ingredients with the Santa Cruz community. She loves working with her hands and in addition to baking and gardening, she is also a potter and an herbalist. She believes cakes and cupcakes are a meaningful element of celebrations and cake design is an art form filled with possibility and joy.
